The Northwest Catholic District School Board is a system committed to Catholic Education.   The Board serves the communities of Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan and Stratton in Northwestern Ontario.   The 12,000 square kilometer jurisdiction is home to approximately 1300 students, to 348 full, part time and casual staff and 5 elementary schools.

 

The Northwest Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of the Assistant Manager of Finance, located in either the Fort Frances or Dryden Board Office, commencing as soon as possible.

 

Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the successful applicant will be responsible for monitoring school level budgets and funds, will supervise and assist the Finance Department with a working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable, complete annual Ministry reporting, assist with the year end audit and annual financial statements and assist with general day to day financial operations.

 

Required qualifications:

  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business;
  • Professional Accounting designation preferred or willing to work towards;
  • Three years related experience;
  • Superior oral and written communication and organizational skills;
  • Previous experience in a computerized accounting and payroll environment;
  • Experience with various Ministry Acts and regulations;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license as travel throughout the District is required.

Salary/Benefits:

  • $94,454 to $102,726 (dependent upon experience and qualifications);
  • We also offer a comprehensive and generous benefit package including vacation, personal leave and enrollment into the OMERS Pension Plan.

As a member of the Administrative Team, the incumbent will work from Fort Frances and take a lead role in supporting children, families, teachers and administrators to enhance the overall functional and academic performance of our students by: 

  • Providing direct supervision and managing the work of the Board’s Child and Youth Workers;
  • Providing assessment and advocacy services for students and families;
  • Developing policies, procedures and protocols, including community and program development;
  • Providing conflict resolution and mediation supports with students, families and administrators;
  • Providing students with mental health risk assessments and interventions;
  • Providing direct counselling services to students either individually, or in group settings to cope with school, community or family situations;
  • Providing parenting strategies, resources and referrals;
  • Providing classroom support and assistance with bullying and victimization, peer relationship or social skills;
  • Providing support to Principals, Administrators and other Board staff;
  • Developing and overseeing a departmental budget;
  • Developing and providing in-service professional development to staff;
  • Providing child abuse supports and assistance;
  • Liaising with outside agencies and providing referral services.

 

The successful candidate shall have:

  • Completion of a postsecondary degree in a Social Work or related field;
  • Be certified to provide psycho-therapy/counselling to students;
  • A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) if applicable;
  • A solid grounding in the faith and moral principles of Catholicity;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with students in a school or similar setting;
  • a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment;
  • Previous experience
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications:

·       Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma or equivalent (3 year);

·       Minimum of one (1) year of similar work experience;

·       BMS (Behavioural Management System) and Applied Behaviour Analysis Training;

·       Sound decision making skills, take initiative, sound judgment and resourceful;

·       Able to plan work to achieve departmental goals and desired outcomes;

·       Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate in both verbal and written form;

·       First Aid Certificate (an asset);

·       Experience supporting students with autism would be an asset;
