Catholic Parent Involvement Committee
When parents and schools work together, positive outcomes include:
- improving student achievement
- improving student behaviour
- reducing absenteeism
- a greater sense of inclusion, belonging and confidence among parents about their children's education
What is the CPIC?
TNCDSB’s Catholic Parent Involvement Committee is a board committee made up of representatives from each School Council in our Board. There for support are Board representatives and Trustee representatives from the Board.
At the CPIC meetings, we discuss topics of interest to parents such as bullying, instructional activities in schools, social media, and mental health. We also have child-relevant presentation from our community partners such as the Northwestern Health Unit.
At the meetings, our respective School Council representatives also share the work/activities of their School Councils, share ideas for fundraising or other ways to support the schools, and will also seek advice from other members. The sharing of activities and goals of each School Council is a great way to develop new ideas for your own school council.
We have also set up a “Google Classroom” for the sharing of ideas and Board information in that classroom for School Council Chairs to access at their convenience.
Who Should Attend CPIC Meetings?
AT LEAST one PARENT member from each school council should attend. Often the Chairperson will attend on behalf of their School Council, but in the event the Chair/Vice Chair cannot attend, another parent member should be appointed to attend. It does not have to be the same representative for every meeting. You are also welcome to send more than one representative, as long as they are parent members.
Your school Principal will forward the name and contact information (email address) of your School Council Chairperson. The Board will send meeting and Google Classroom invitations to the chairperson so that they can access the Google Classroom information to share with their School Councils, as well as to ensure their School Council sends a representative to attend the (virtual) Board Catholic Parent Involvement Committee Meeting.
